The Plymouth Center for the Arts is proud to announce the 52nd Juried Art Show and Festival “Where Art and History Meet. Mark your calendars as you do not want to miss this exciting cornucopia of events that has something sure to please each and every one. All the events take place at the Plymouth Center for the Arts at 11 North St. in the Plymouth downtown area
The kickoff event is the OPENING GALA AND RECEPTION to honor the artists and announce the award winners. This takes place on Saturday, September 21st at 7:00 PM. This annual celebratory event is a highlight of the Plymouth social season. Music will be provided by Doug Mclaughlin and Friends; Martini’s of Plymouth will serve up a delectable assortment of appetizers and small bites; our own reception committee will provide delicious desserts and a cash bar will be available. Tickets are $35 per person and can be purchased online at ArtsPlymouth.org. All art work will be for sale.
A new and special event was added this year: WALT WHITMAN’S TIME FOR A PARTY is a one man show performed by the popular Geronimo Sands, former artistic director of Priscilla Beach Theatre. In honor of Walt’s 200th birthday, Geronimo will embody the essence of Walt by reading and dramatizing poetry from Leaves of Grass. This promises to be a very interesting performance. A birthday cake and assorted goodies will be available to add to the festivities of the evening. It will take place on Saturday, September 28th at 7:00 PM. Doors open at 6:00 PM. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at ArtsPlymouth.org
We are extremely happy to announce that the popular ART IN BLOOM event returns for 2019! This inspiring exhibition where artists and gardeners come together to create unique flower arrangements based on selected pieces of art will delight the viewer. That opening reception takes place on Friday, October 4th from 6:00-8:00 PM but, the flowers will be on view Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 4, 5 and 6 from 10:00-4:00PM. Admission is free
Painting “en plein air” - yes, painting outside, that is the goal of the ART STROLL. Join us for an afternoon of fun walking up and down North St. to witness the artists working on their own canvases - right in front of your very eyes. See how it’s done, observe the techniques and view the finished products. Artwork will be for sale. It is happening on First Saturday, October 5th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. While there, step inside the Art Center and take a peek! There is no fee for this adventure. Rain date is scheduled for Sunday, October 6th from 12:00-4:00.
YOUNG @ ART has always been a favorite event of the annual shows. This Juried Art Show is reserved for artists 6-18 years of age. Encourage your young artists to submit their work by dropping off their pieces at the Center for the Arts on Thursday, October 10th from 3:00-7:00 PM; cost is $5 per submission and 2 pieces are allowed per person. Opening reception and awards will be held on Sunday, October 13th from 1:00-4:00PM. This exhibit runs from October 13th to October 27th.
Another fun event is the HAUNTED GINGERBREAD HOUSE WORKSHOP. Children from the ages of 4-12 are invited to attend and decorate their very own confection, under the guidance of artist, Brenda Cowen. Because this is so popular, two sessions have been added on Saturday, October 26th from 11:00 AM - Noon; and 1:00-2:00 PM. Cost is $10 per child. Advance reservations are mandatory. The deadline for registration is Wednesday, October 23rrd at ArtsPlymouth.org
We are honored to present A STROLL THROUGH NORTH STREET HISTORY WITH BILL KEOHAN on Friday, Nov. 1st at 6:00 PM at the Art Center. A history buff, he is very knowledgeable about the architectural history of many of the houses and streets in Plymouth’s Historic District. Admission is free. Join us for this informative and enjoyable event.
