In the first part of this class we’ll learn the basics of embroidery stitching and create some of the common stitches.
The second half will be for students to experiment with additional stitches of their choosing.
Skill level should be a consideration. Fabric, needle and a length of two colors will be supplied.
Students will be practicing most of the basic stitches that comprise many of the stitches in the image of the sampler,
but students may not do all the stitches.
If students have some experience with the basics, but would like some guidance on more complex stitches, or techniques, such as applique or beading,
please contact Gwendolyn no later than one week prior to discuss the feasibility and additional tools.
This workshop runs from 10am-4pm with 1/2 hour lunch - Students might want to bring a bag lunch.
Student Supply List:
- Embroidery scissors or small fabric scissors (regular scissors will not cut cleanly through the thread)
- Embroidery hoop, 7” (6” or 8” will do)
- 3 or more colors of embroidery floss (#25 DMC cotton, or other brand; avoid the satin, rayon, silk or metallic versions for this class.) We’ll be using a natural/ecru linen, so bear that in mind when picking colors; avoid white, and very pale colors, as you want to see the stitch results. At least two should contrast each other.
- Optional: needle threader, water soluble marking pen or pencil, paper and pen for notes.
