BEWARE of INTERNET ART SCAM

It appears a scammer has been contacting artists who have works in our online member gallery, as well as those with websites.

If you have a website or Guild Gallery page beware an internet art scammer going by the name of Janet Roane as well as many others. Janet Roane has been trying to negotiate for many local artists'  paintings and the communicating emails are exactly the same as those in the warning links (see below).  Please pass this on to all your artist friends and art related email addresses so they are aware.

Here's a link to info about the scam:

The scam works like this: They offer to purchase a piece of art, then send you a check that is more than the agreed upon amount. They then ask you to send back the extra amount before their check has cleared, which it won't, because it is fake. In the meantime, if you send them the art, or allow it to be 'picked up' by shippers, they get your art, too...but they are mostly after your money. Other artists have reported similar scammer email inquiries, so beware.   Often the language - not very good English - is the first tip off.
