INTRODUCTION TO PASTELS with JOHN NUTTER

New and continuing students will learn the fundamentals of drawing and pastel painting through demonstrations and group critiques. Using still-life and photographs as references, students will create paintings that emphasize form, structure, color, value and perspective. Limit 8 students.
BEGINNING TO INTERMEDIATE DRAWING & PAINTING INSTRUCTION with EDWINA CACI

Drawing is a key to successful artwork. This instructor focuses on giving each student individual attention in order to improve drawing skills and guide the completion of the artwork in charcoal, pencil, and or oil/acrylic/watercolor paint. Students choose their own subject matter as they work from still life, photos of their choice, or portrait. Bring materials that suit your medium. Limit 8 students.
TUESDAY May 1 – June 5 (6 classes)
ART BUFFET with SARAH BATES WASHBURN

This class gives the budding artist a chance to dabble, experiment and learn about various media including: pen and ink, watercolor, charcoal, acrylic, etc. Students will learn various techniques or enhance their current abilities with each medium, creating a completed composition by session's end in the media of their choice. This class gives you the freedom to spread your wings and discover something new or reconnect to something old, all in a relaxed, fun and supportive atmosphere.

ART IS IN YOU! This is an excellent class for new artists as well as everyone else! Come draw a very unique and inspiring design and watch it develop before your eyes. You will spontaneously draw lines and shapes in a balanced structure which will grow into a much more personal expression as you near completion of your masterpiece. You'll be surprised and pleased at your results in this fun and relaxing ART EXERCISE. Come try this! We will experiment with COLOR when your design is complete. Limit 8 students.
CERAMIC WHEEL THROWING 101 with BRENDA O'ROURKE

Learn the "Fine Art" of throwing clay on the potter's wheel. The entire process of producing pots, altering wheel-thrown pottery, surface treatments, glazing, and various firing methods will be explored. Plan to "get down and dirty" for this class. Limit 6 students.

IMPRESSIVE IMAGES – Introduction to Printmaking with KATHLEEN MULLINS MOGAYZEL

Printmaking provides a creative experience where personal style and imagery can be expressed more readily than in some other traditional art processes. Students will be taught basic printmaking skills initially without the use of a press, such as trace drawing, hand transfer and gelatin printing. Creating colors while preparing inks and awareness of texture will be emphasized. After learning these skills, the printmaking press will then be used to create monoprints from inked Plexiglas plates onto paper. A demonstration will be followed by individual attention and group critique. Students at all levels of experience are welcome.

THURSDAY May 3 – June 7 (6 classes)
BASIC DRAWING with JOHN NUTTER

Individual attention will help students create drawings based on still-life objects and photographs. Students will learn how to build their drawing skills through understanding the importance of shading, values and structure.
OIL/ACRYLIC PAINTING with DORO SIMONE

Students choose to work from oils or acrylics in this course designed for all experience levels. Learn the basics of painting or challenge yourself and bring skills to the next level. Individual attention is emphasized. Limit 10 students.
CREATIVE WRITING with SARAH MOON (beginner to advanced)

This course in Creative Writing will take you from the idea phase to a finished draft. Through freewrites, group feedback and discussion, you’ll get to explore your story, share ideas and get valuable insight from classmates and instructor. Taking inspiration from accomplished writers, you’ll unlock your own creative juices and see what’s hiding inside. As you develop your piece, you’ll learn how to bring greater detail, focus and purpose to your work to produce something you’ll be proud to share with an audience. Limit 8 students.

ONE-DAY PORTRAIT WORKSHOP from a MODEL with DIANNE PANARELLI-MILLER

If you want to improve your drawing skills, this is the workshop for you!
Dianne will begin by doing a demo, using a live model. After a break for lunch we will draw or paint the portrait in a controlled setting using charcoals or oils. Enjoy the camaraderie and feedback from a fun group while Dianne paints with you. We will share information of the academics and talk about values, composition and technique in a simple, easy language. Focusing on discipline, we will work together to help each person at their level keep their painting moving in the right direction. Both beginners and advanced artists will benefit from this experience. Limit 8 students.
FOLLOW-ALONG PASTEL DEMO WORKSHOP with JOHN NUTTER

This pastel "join along" demonstration for beginners and intermediates will focus on two important elements that help bring about a professional looking painting: paper stock and under painting. The paper stock will be Kitty Wallis and the under-painting will be an alcohol rub treatment. Other important features will be stressed, such as a balanced composition, critical editing, and contrasting values. Limit 8 students.
DRAMATIC SETTINGS ONE-DAY PASTEL WORKSHOP with CHRISTINE BODNAR

This one-day workshop is designed for the beginner to intermediate pastel painter who loves painting the landscape and wants their work to stand-out with a personal style and to develop a better understanding of design and composition within the painting space. Students will work from photos of their choice. The use of under painting technique will be discussed. A demonstration will begin the class showing students how the instructor approaches her own work. Limit 10 students.
TWO-DAY PLEIN AIR & STUDIO OIL PAINTING WORKSHOP with DAVID MONTEIRO

Weather permitting, on Saturday, we will paint outdoors. A demonstration will begin the morning. The latter part of the morning and afternoon, students will paint outdoors. Instruction to be discussed and demonstrated includes: how to search for elements and determine; what makes a good composition based on natural subject matter and light; painting techniques and the use of various mediums; and personal one-on-one instruction. On Sunday, students will be studio painting indoors to apply the lessons learned from outdoor painting to a still life setting. Limit 12 students.
ONE-DAY PASTEL WORKSHOP with JOHN NUTTER

This one day "paint along" Pastel Workshop will allow all students to actively engage in painting the individual steps along with the instructor. In-between these steps there will be discussions and critiques. Each student will receive a copy print of the instructor's landscape subject matter prior to starting.
Materials needed: 1. 12x18 sheet of Kitty Wallis Archival Sanded Paper taped or mounted onto a stiff board and a bottle of rubbing alcohol and a small, tightly sealed container.
Limit 8 students.
ONE-DAY PORTRAIT WORKSHOP from a MODEL with EDWINA CACI

Work in a medium of your choice (charcoal, watercolor, oil) to create a head & shoulders portrait in a 16"x20" format. With instruction, you will lay out your palette, create a sketch, develop a composition, and then paint along with this gifted artist instructor to complete the stages of the portrait. Limit 7 students.

You’ve mastered how to draw your favorite animals. Now let’s work on illustrating them in color! We’ll be drawing animals with colored pencil, chalk and acrylic paint to create some wonderfully colorful pieces to brighten up your world. Limit 10 students.
